Android Gingerbread coming to an End

Android Logo

Google is withdrawing support for Android devices running Android 2.3.7   commonly know as gingerbread.

This is effective from the 27 September 2021 and will effect YouTube, Google Play Store, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Calendar and more. All these apps will cease to work showing a sign in error.

Some apps like Gmail will still be available via a web browser, but unless your device can be upgraded the apps will be unavailable.

From Android help

Access your Google Account on Android 2.3.7 or lower

To help protect your account's security, you can't sign in with your Google Account on an Android device with Android 2.3.7 or lower. If you perform any of the following actions on devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower, you may get a username or password error.

  • Try to sign in to Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube, and Maps
  • Add or create a new Google Account
  • Perform a factory reset and try to sign in
  • Change your Google Account password, which signs you out on all devices, and try to sign in again
  • Remove your account from the device and try to re-add it

Learn how to check your Android version.

Access your account or email

You can sign in to your account with Android version 3.0 or newer. If your device can update to Android version 3.0 or newer, we advise you to do so.

If you can't update your device to Android version 3.0 or newer, you can sign in to your Google Account on your device's web browser. You can still use some Google services when you sign in to Google on your device's web browser.

  1. Open your device's mobile web browser.
  2. Enter your username and password.

Mobile Phone Faults

Just a quick word on mobiles with quirky faults like WIFI going off apps not running properly.
Over the last few months I have had a problem with a couple apps not working properly on Android phone. Did all the usual things reboot the phone and reinstall the app but this did not fix it. While browsing my way around  the phone I found that the SD card appeared to be full abut it was not.
A quick format of the card went well or so it seemed but no it was still reporting full with a bit of data on. Fitted a new SD Card and bobs you uncle everything was working correctly no apps problems.

Next Problem was again an apps problem but this time the WIFI would not reconnect to the router when the lease had run out. Again changed the card and again all fixed.

Moral of this story check your SD Card
