How To Get The Time Portion from Getdates

To get the date portion only from get dates try the following 

select CONVERT(VARCHAR(5),GETDATE(),114)   

this can then be used to see if  a time has passed

CONVERT(VARCHAR(5),GETDATE(),114)>'15:00' 

Stored procedure skips date

If you are using date math in a stored procedure  like   datepart(dw,getdate())  which returns a  2 for Tuesday  make sure you set the Datefirst parameter to the first day of the week for the country you are in. set  DATEFIRST 1.  see here

Failure to do this could result in your date calculations not running properly, Tuesday may become 3. This is due to the fact that when run manually the calculation are run differently than when a Job is run from SQL server agent.

Format(Date.Now, "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm") = 19/02/2013 11:31

Date with hours minute and seconds

Format(Date.Now, "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm ss ") = 19/02/2013 11:31 20

Long date
Format(Date.Now, "Long date ")  = 19 February 2013

Short Date
Format(Date.Now, "Short date ")  = 19/02/2013

Just the Time
Format(Date.Now, "hh:mm" )= 11:31
