How To Get The Time Portion from Getdates





To get the date portion only from get dates try the following 



select CONVERT(VARCHAR(5),GETDATE(),114)   

this can then be used to see if  a time has passed


CONVERT(VARCHAR(5),GETDATE(),114)>'15:00'

Validate the time as a String




Here is how to validate the time as a String  like 10:59 in VB.NET

Use regular expressions to do this using the below example

Date and Time Formats VB.net


Visual basic Time formats


Date.now  returns the  19/02/2013 11:27:24

You can format this date with Format(,) like this

Just the date

Format(Date.Now, "dd/MM/yyyy") = 19/02/2013

Date with short Month

Format(Date.Now, "dd/M/yyyy") = 19/2/2013

Date with hours and minutes

Format(Date.Now, "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm") = 19/02/2013 11:31

Date with hours minute and seconds

Format(Date.Now, "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm ss ") = 19/02/2013 11:31 20

Long date
Format(Date.Now, "Long date ")  = 19 February 2013

Short Date
Format(Date.Now, "Short date ")  = 19/02/2013

Just the Time
Format(Date.Now, "hh:mm" )= 11:31
