See LinkedIn Details in Outlook

 If contact sync is enabled for LinkedIn by your administrator you can view contact information etc from LinkedIn. Right click the email address from the sender, then click the Linked in icon.   If the contact has a LinkedIn account the details will be displayed.

Outlook 365 desktop not recieving Mail

I had an occation today to look at a machine that would not receive mail. Outlook had two mail accounts the primary and a second one.

    I checked all the settings and could not find any reason for no mail going to the primary account. I closed outlook down and opened the mail in the control panel. 

    A quick glance gave me no clues as everything looked correct, then i noticed that the primary email was not set as primary in the in the data section of the setup. I corrected this and mail started to arrive, not something i would have thought possibe.

Surly this is a Microsoft feature that is not required.

   Is your e-mail invading your privacy, some e-mails contain items that take details from your computer and record them for future use.
    What the how you cry well.

 A small image the size of a pixel can be placed inside the email this could be just a white dot, that can not be seen by the naked eye. These are known as  web beacon or web bug,  When the e-mail is opened a request is sent to the server  that is hosting the image. The IP address of the requesting PC is then recorded in a database against the image name. A history of your activity is then built up.

So what does this tell me

1. You have two PC that you open mail on.
2. The address of those machines.
1. your isp.
2. your general location.
3. You do open spam mail. so we can send more as it is an indicator that you have read the mail.
4. What browser you are using.
1. Custom Trojan's can be sent for that version of web browser.
5. The operating system you are using may also be recorded.
1. Will show computer type 
1. Windows Pc
2. Apple
3. Android

So now we know you e-mail may be invading your privacy. This is why programs like Outlook block by default the downloading of images from the internet and have to be manual requested.

A Cautionary E-mail Tale

           

              I recently received an email telling me that I need to take £500 to the post office to pay for my euros. I was a bit baffled as i had not ordered any currency.
I looked at the email address and saw it was my old Hotmail address.  SCAM jumped into my mind so I dug deep and checked the header info on the e-mail and it all looked genuine. On the phone to a number for the company, I had off the net not the one I'm the email, think premium rate. 

           Anyway it turns out that the email address should have had an underscore on not a dot. Not a scam but a mistake but beware I would not have thought that they would allow to addresses so alike. Then I thought this was nearly 20 years old not so security conscious then. 

So beware old email  addresses can be dangerous
